Global Warming Burlesque: An Environmental Extravaganza!

Brooklyn, NY

November 3, 2007 09:00PM to 03:00AM

Hosted by Suspicous Package

Event Description:
www.globalwarmingburlesque.com On November 3, 2007 as communities across the nation gather through Step It Up to host climate change awareness events exactly one year before the next presidential election, the Brooklyn-based burlesque dance trio Suspicious Package invites guests to a gritty bar on the Williamsburg waterfront to revel in the depravity, carnality and shocking awe of the changing climate in our decadent lifetime. The doors will open at 9:00 p.m. to a world in which the full space of the bar is an immersive experience of impending environmental doom. Art installations in the venue will be as important as the show itself, weaving together environmentally shocking art - on and offstage. Performances and art will range from coal miners bathing on-stage to participatory scrap installations, from psychedelic hula hoping to a political figure getting stripped by environmental scientists, and from an adult puppet show to the signature glitter and flesh of the synchronized Dazzle Dancers. The issue of climate change will be given the bawdy and saucy treatment that only burlesque dancers stripping down to their thongs and pasties can do. Performers include World Famous *BOB*, Rose Wood, Dazzle Dancers, Puppet State Theater, Super A Lot, Justin Tyme. Also featuring and produced by Suspicious Package (www.suspiciouspackage.info). Art installations will feature sound by Dmitri and new works by Marie Evelyn (Scrapcycle), Sophia Dream Fabric, Eco-Art Collaborative, & A.T. Birdsall Photography. DJ Credit No Debit hosts a dance party after the show. The audience (21 years of age and older, please) is encouraged to be loud, rowdy and raunchy at this FREE event, and to continue to celebrate the day in calling for real leadership on global warming including these key priorities: (1) no new coal plants, (2) 80% reduction in carbon emissions by 2050, and (3) 5 million new green jobs. There will be opportunities for the audience and participants to write letters to U.S. representatives, to switch their electricity to windpower, and to plant and take away their own carbon-offset in the form of a tree or plant seed. Earlier in the day, Step It Up will host global warming rallies and events all over the nation, including in Washington Square Park on November 3, 2007 to call for leadership on global warming. The event will build on Step It Up’s April 14 rally that produced more than 1,400 events in 50 states, the largest global warming event in U.S. history.
